“The world is round and the place which seem like the end may also be only the beginning.” – George Baker
This blog attempts not only to give you alternative news from around the world but also tips about where to travel and what to see when you are over there.
I will try and write at least three stories a week from across the world.
So hopefully after reading some of these posts, you’ll feel the sudden urge to go off and travel the world with your little back pack and discover (or reinforce) a thirst for new countries, civilisations, experiences, people and landscapes. Most of the countries I suggest I have been to, others I’m on my way to. I’ve tried to create a easy-reading and colourful atmosphere. But please remember this is not a guide book so most of the really useful travelling information can be found in the Bible of all travellers, THE LONELY PLANET!!
On the other hand, I get my news from various websites such as the almighty BBC, rue89.com, OhmyNews or El Pais.
Please browse around and enjoy…and maybe see you on the other side of the planet whatever side you are on.
Before I get started on anything here’s a book amongst many others that really conveyed what travelling and understanding the countries you visit is all about: A fortune teller told me by Tiziano Terzani. Terzani was a German journalist and asian correspondant for Der Spiegel. One year in Hong-Kong a fortune teller told him not use air transport in the year of 1997. Arrives 1997 he decided to take the fortune teller seriously and only use land travel and from then on starts a year long journey through Asia and towards Europe.
